Sea Change
2015
After years of keeping part-time employment separate from my art, in 2015 it seemed to be making more of an impact. In this case the graphical motif used to drive Sea Change, allthough inspired by minimalism and geometric abstraction was copied from a work-place glass divide. The body of work started with two unremarkable digital pinhole images. They were made in a random way whilst walking along the shore at Marloes Sands in West Wales.
The film re-imagines the tidal rhythms of that day, and was made by animating hundreds of digitally constructed images. The film reflects on the balance between personal freedom and restraint. It's very slow metre, both cog like and clock like evokes hours passing as we labour in the work place, and glimpses freedom by escaping to the sea.
